Punjab Scholarship: The Government of the Indian state of Punjab releases notifications regarding itsdifferent scholarship schemes for various sections of society members in the state every year. Students belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), among others, are invited to apply for the Punjab Government scholarship programs.

Through scholarships, the Punjab Government aims to provide educational opportunities to students from impoverished backgrounds who cannot afford to pay for higher education. By availing scholarships, these pupils can pursue higher studies without facing any financial hurdles.

However, applicants are advised to read all Application guidelines thoroughly. Also, they must apply only upon fulfilling the given eligibility norms. It is even important to apply in the prescribed format and within the stipulated deadline.

Punjab Scholarships: Various Types

The different types of scholarships that the Department of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes under the Punjab State Government offers are studied below:

  • Pre-Matric Scholarship for SC students

SC students pursuing Pre-Matric courses are encouraged to apply for this scholarship scheme.

  • Pre-Matric Scholarship for OBC students

Students hailing from the OBC category can apply for this scholarship program for enrollment in Pre-Matric Classes

  • Post-Matric Scholarship for SC students

Students belonging to the SC category are encouraged to apply for this scholarship scheme for admission to Post-Matric classes.

  • Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC students

OBC students pursuing Post-Matric courses are invited to apply for this scholarship program for financial support for paying the fees of Post-Matric classes.

Punjab Scholarships: Eligibility Norms

The eligibility criteria for applying for the Punjab scholarships are discussed below:

  • The aspirant has to secure domicile status of the Punjab state of India
  • SC and OBC students who are admitted in Classes 1 to 10 are eligible to apply for the Pre-Matric Scholarships
  • In case of Post-Matric scholarships for SC and OBC students, they have to be studying in Classes 11 up to the PhD level to be eligible
  • The annual income of the student’s family should not exceed the limit of INR 2.5 lakh from all sources. Even so, for OBC students applying for Pre-Matric scholarships, this limit has been reduced to INR 50000
  • He/she cannot be availing any other centrally-funded scholarship

Punjab Scholarships: Application Process

Candidates who are interested in submitting their applications for the Punjab Government scholarships should follow the following process:

  • Start by visiting the home page of the DrAmbedkar Scholarship Portal, https://scholarships.punjab.gov.in/Default.aspx
  • Here, navigate to the “Student Corner” section and select “Student Registration” from the submenu
  • When done, the system exhibits the Online Registration Form, where you have to fill in the mandatory fields
  • As part of the Online Registration process, the system generates your “Applicant ID” and “Password”, which you should note down
  • Your following step includes logging in to your account and filling out the Online Application Form
  • Before final submission of your application, check all details in your Application
  • If all details in your application are correct, click on the “Edit-Lock-Print” tab; and subsequently, on the “Lock” option for your application to be forwarded to the School/College/Institute
  • After you lock and forward your application online to the Institution, you have to take a print copy of your application, which comes with a barcode
  • The final step is to submit the print copy of your application, and attested copies of mandatory documents, at the Institute
